Choice

Choice

A choice is an action or decision in which I've had to pick between two options. In working a choice most of the time I am never able to take it back. Only in some cases I am able to do so. For example I've had made both a positive choice and a negative. In making my positive choice I had to think of a way to achieve my goal to play the Piano and Violin. The action I decided to take was not to go to my cousin's house anymore because I mostly just waste the weekend there instead of doing something productive. My cousin's house isn't really a productive place. The negative choice I've made was not drinking the enough water which cause me to have appendicitis. I had to get my appendix surgically removed, causing me to miss school for a month or so.

InThe Road Not Takenby Robert Frost, choice is important. The Traveler had to decide which of the two roads he would take (speaking metaphorically). Knowing that the choice would've a significant impact on his life. He first looked down the first road, as far as he can see to where it bent in the undergrowth. Then he looked at the second road an saw it was more claim. He decided to take the road less traveled. The kinds of differences Robert between last line, the second and the less traveled one are, the choice of not having both roads taken, in which makes the protagonist wonder what if. The choice of taking a road less traveled by those who have not taken that road. I get the feeling its a deserted path with an ominous aura. All these roads to final taken a path which has made all the difference in his life. Robert Frost uses the roads symbolism of having to decide between two roads, which will have I huge impact and opening new paths through the rest of his life an not having an option of probably never ever going back which creates a dilemma within one's self. We must be satisfied with the we made taken. Only through carefully thinking and sometimes taking a risk can I be satisfied.

The Legend of La Llorona had a major influence on the short short story Dead End by Rudolfo Anaya. In the story Maria was a hard working study/ mother figure for her younger siblings. On the day of Maria's mothers death, she had made a promise to stay in school and get a good education. Maria was a excellent study, unlike the people in her surroundings. All they ever do is hang out, make out , smoke marijuana and drink. Her only friend was a Japanese study. Maria had always stuck her head in the books, tacking care of her family since her father was much of any help. Maria never had time to hang out with the kids at school. One evening she was asked out by the most popular guy in school Frankie Galvan. They drove around , as the finally stop on a bridge. Frankie was smoking marijuana as usual he had handed it to Maria. Maria stared at it as she remember the story of The Legend of La Llorona. She told Frankie as she handed the marijuana cigarette back to him. She stated she didn't want to drown her kids like the Women did in the story, though in Maria's world that will be giving up the promise she made to her mother just before she died. Puzzled Frankie looked, although Maria knows she'll never get another chance like this and she would end up regretting it, she decides to keep her mothers promise and make a good living for herself. Maria made a choice of being a book warm, instead of being like everyone else who just do whatever they want to. The Tyranny of Choice, by Barry Schwartz is an article that discusses if the choices we make are connected to our happiness. I believe the choices we make form and shape how our lives and how much are we satisfied with our decision, whether it be for better or worse. In this Article Schwartz, breaks down the people into two groups, being a Maximizer or Satisficer. The Maximizer aim higher towards what they want, and not taking anything lesser. The Satisficers accept things lesser without having much expectation or accepting a good enough product. The have different values through they're life, but the share a discomfort with the choices they make. I believe I am a in the mix of both Maximizer and Satisficer. My reason for saying this is simple;when I have a goal I plunge right through whatever obstacle lies ahead. Depending how vast my goal is I tend to over think the potential of obtaining this goal. What I mean about over thinking the potential lies in my ability, will and finally
